Democrats of Indian River March in Sebastian 4th of July Parade

The Indian River County Democratic Executive Committee, the Democratic Club of Indian River, and the Democratic Women’s Club of Indian River joined local officials and marched in the 47th annual 4th of July Parade in Sebastian today.  It was a great showing of Democrats in the county–working families, seniors and students.

The parade route was lined with fellow Americans showing their patriotism in outfits of red, white, and blue and waving American flags.  It was a true American moment–one that is being replicated in hometowns all over the USA.

Democrats marched with their banners as colleagues handed out candy for children and palm cards to the adults.  Quick to make people think, the palm cards ask readers:  Which Democratic initiatives have benefited you?

  • Women’s Suffrage Movement
  • Securities Exchange Act of 1934
  • Social Security Act
  • Unemployment Compensation
  • Rural Electrification
  • Federal Home Loan Program
  • 40 hour work week
  • Minimum Wage
  • GI Bill
  • Marshall Plan
  • Civi Rights Act
  • 1st Manned Mission to the Moon
  • Medicare
  • Voting Rights Act
  • Guaranteed Student Loan Program
  • Family and Medical Leave Act
  • The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act
  • Affordable Care Act

These initiatives represent the values of fairness, compassion, and inclusion we cherish as Democrats.

Nikki Fried, the Commissioner of Agriculture and the only Democrat in the Governor’s Cabinet, raised these values in her 4th of July message today, noting:

This July 4th, I’m thinking about the American values that I cherish, like those written into the Declaration of Independence.  Adopted 243 years ago today, it states that all of us are created equal and have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness…  Working toward protecting the vision of our founding fathers is how I plan to salute America today. I’ll never stop being proud of all of the efforts people in this country are making to ensure that the US is an inviting and sustainable place for families of every background to live, feel free, and flourish.

The Democrats of Indian River wish all our fellow citizens a happy and peaceful 4th of July as we celebrate the birth of our great country!
