POSTCARD FROM THE PRESIDENT:

COVID-19 (AND VOTE FOR ME)

A postcard arrived in my mailbox this week from none other than President Donald J. Trump, who happens to be up for re-election in November. I imagine every household in America received the same mailing.

The cover read “PRESIDENT TRUMP’S CORONOVIRUS GUIDELINES FOR AMERICANS.”

The information on the flip side was valuable, although some of the guidelines were already out of date by the time the postcard was mailed. What’s clear, however, is that the guidelines were not his, but those of science and medical experts.

To label them as ‘TRUMP’S GUIDELINES,” however, was a naked attempt to take political advantage of a pandemic that is killing tens of thousands. How cynical, to turn tragedy into a branding exercise. How typical of this president.

Any right-minded person knew long ago that there would come a day when Trump’s arrogance and the sheer incompetence of his political appointees to positions of authority were going to wreak havoc upon the nation. We didn’t know it would come at such a terrible cost.
