The Democratic Executive Committee of Indian River County Urges Congress to Protect Our Nation’s DREAMers

On Easter morning, a day known to symbolize re-birth and reconciliation, President Trump declared war on restoring any protections for DREAMers as originally enacted by President Obama in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.   He directed Congressional Republicans to pass targeted anti-immigrant legislation writing, “Republicans must go to Nuclear Option to pass tough laws NOW. NO MORE DACA DEAL.”

Democrats have long advocated legal status for all of the nation’s 11 million undocumented immigrants. Democrats have been negotiating to protect DACA enrollees.

The Democratic Executive Committee of Indian River County passed a resolution last November voicing our sentiment that the Congress of The United States immediately enact statutory protections for DREAMers.

We are outraged by the President’s latest outburst.  Not even understanding who qualifies for status under DACA (immigrants who have lived in the US since 2007, arrive in the country before the age of 16, and young than 31 on June 15, 2012.  No one arriving in the US after that date is eligible.), the President tweeted:

“A lot of people are coming in because they want to take advantage of DACA.”

The Democratic Party cherishes multiculturalism and diversity in our country and is in direct opposition to this current administration policy.

The Democrats of Indian River call on the Florida Congressional Delegation to save our Dreamers.
