Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Canvasses with Haagenson in Gifford

Today, Nicole Haagenson, candidate for state representative in District 54, campaigned with Democratic gubernatorial candidate Chris King in Gifford. Both candidates discussed the issues and listened to constituent concerns.

“I appreciate Chris’s genuine interest in the Treasure Coast and my candidacy,” said Haagenson. “We’re on the ground, talking with people about issues that matter to them.”

King’s visit and the support of the national organization of VoteVets are further evidence of an increasingly energized Democratic Party in Indian River. Haagenson is a seven-year Air Force veteran.

“Nicole’s candidacy is important to the Democrats of Indian River and we are pleased that a Democratic gubernatorial candidate is working directly with Nicole.  Our work in the county is increasingly being recognized by the Florida Democratic Party and we are grateful that our efforts are building this kind of excitement,” said Kim Lorimier, chair of the Democratic Executive Committee.

Haagenson intends to work with a new Democratic governor to make sure that the interests of Indian River County are front and center in Tallahassee. She will help to end one-party control of state government with its negative effects on the the environment, healthcare and the welfare of working families of Florida.

For example, Haagenson and King agree that the state should accept federal Medicaid funds to provide health coverage for an additional 877,000 state residents.

King is a third-generation Central-Floridian and progressive entrepreneur.  King runs an affordable housing company that provides safe, quality affordable housing to seniors and working families across Florida and the southeastern United States while paying employees living wages starting at $15 an hour, covering their healthcare, and paying bonuses to every worker.  He is running to shake up conventional politics, take on the political establishment, and has been outspoken in his fights against Big Sugar and the gun lobby.
