Democrats of Indian River Statement On President Joseph R. Biden, Jr.

Yesterday, President Joe Biden announced he would not seek the Democratic party’s nomination for re-election. Joe Biden’s decision to prioritize the interest of the party and the nation is a selfless display of his profound commitment to democracy, unity and our country’s future.

As President of the United States and throughout his decades of service to our country, President Biden has led America with wisdom, intellect, grace and dignity. His legacy will be an extraordinary record as one of the most accomplished and consequential leaders in American history. From rescuing the nation out of the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing the economy roaring back from the brink of recession, rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure, restoring America’s place on the world stage and enacting transformative legislation, his many patriotic accomplishments have been a beacon of hope for everyday Americans.

Democrats of Indian River remains steadfast in our profound commitment to America and the values we hold dear. Project 2025 is an extreme takeover plan to roll back Americans’ rights and freedoms, hurt the middle class, and undermine our democracy by consolidating power in the executive branch, defunding government agencies and giving the Oval Office control to enact revenge and retribution like no president has ever done before.

Together, we will work to continue to build on President Biden’s legacy and the progress we’ve fought so hard for by focusing on electing Democrats in local, state and national races. With just over 100 days until election day it’s now up to us to unite, mobilize and work tirelessly to get out the vote. This is the most consequential election of our lifetime.
Together, we will win.

Democrats of Indian River Statement
on Florida Supreme Court
Abortion Law Ruling

Vero Beach, FL – William C. Evans, Chairman of Democratic Executive Committee of Indian River County, released the following statement after the April 1 Florida Supreme Court Abortion Law Ruling:

Today, the Florida Supreme Court undermined our personal right to privacy and heavily restricted the freedom of women to make their own personal health care decisions without interference from politicians. This decision triggers a six-week, near-total abortion ban, upholding legislation enacted by Governor Ron DeSantis and his legislative allies. The law now will take effect in just 30 days.

The state’s abortion ban will force women to make a a stark choice: Either travel out of state to access healthcare or carry pregnancies to term even when their health is threatened. Defying public will, Florida lawmakers have voted time and again to restrict abortion, now even banning it as early as six weeks of pregnancy — before many even realize they are pregnant.

Floridians also overwhelmingly oppose prosecuting doctors and patients for giving or receiving abortion care. It is more important than ever to return the power of bodily autonomy to the people. This November, Florida voters must vote YES on the referendum to put these decisions back in the hands of Florida families and their doctors, not extreme politicians.
