Florida Democratic Party Issues Statement Commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day

“Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream of racial justice was inextricably tied to his dream for economic justice. Our work in furtherance of his dream must include action on both fronts. We still live in a world where full-time work gets part-time pay, a world with rising economic inequality and unaffordable housing. We must not lose hope and we must speak up and speak out. ‘Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter,’ Dr. King said. His legacy compels us to act, to vindicate our rights, fight for economic freedom and protect our democracy. Today, we continue to face voting rights attacks from our Governor and legislature and a disregard for meaningful action to improve the economic conditions of our people, shielded by cultural wars meant to distract us. But we won’t be deceived and we won’t get tired. The ‘arch of the moral universe is long’ and it’s up to us to bend it towards justice.”
