Floridians Can’t Count On Marco Rubio To Protect Access To Contraception
Senate Republicans have already made it clear that they want to pass a national abortion ban when the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade. Now Republicans across the country are going further, and opening the door to limiting and even banning commonly used contraceptives, a longtime policy goal of Marco Rubio’s
“Marco Rubio has spent his entire political career working to completely restrict Floridians’ freedom to make their own health care decisions. Now that Republicans are opening the door to banning and criminalizing contraception use, Marco Rubio won’t be far behind,” said Florida Democratic Party spokesperson Grant Fox.
Marco Rubio has already supported legislation that limits contraception use:
- He supportedlegislation in the Florida House defining life at conception for purposes of criminal prosecutions, a change that experts say could lead to contraception bans.
- Rubio has introduced legislationthat could cut off birth control access for millions of women by allowing their employers to deny coverage for it in their insurance plans.
Rubio also supported legislation that would allow insurance companies to deny coverage for birth control, which a fellow Republican senator called “an attack on women.”
