If You Care About Our Country, Vote on November 6th, 2018
Election Day, November 6th, will be upon us soon. As such, every resident of Indian River County, regardless of their political affiliation, should be giving serious thought to how they are going to cast their ballot.
While every election is important, this year’s election is particularly important as it’s an opportunity for each of us to either remove, or at least limit the actions of our current president. Democrats, Independents and Republicans all have serious doubts as to whether or not Donald Trump is fit to be the President of the United States. His comments, behavior, domestic, economic and foreign policies have not “Made America Great Again,” but have been damaging to both our status in the world and to our quality of life here at home.
Examples of this are:
1. The establishment of tariffs on imported goods when every known economist says that tariffs are a “lose – lose” proposition.
2. The establishment of a policy which separated parents from their children in an effort to get tough on immigration.
3. A threat to leave NATO, when this organization has been the benchmark of peace in Europe for over 50 years.
4. An increase in racial tensions here in America which has been spurred on by his speeches, Tweets and political actions.
5. An effort to discredit “the media” by calling them the “enemy of the people.”
The list could go on by including his position on affordable health care, the environment and women’s rights. Notice that this doesn’t include the possible collusion and obstruction of justice charges which are now being investigated by Mr. Mueller.
The reason that all of these issues are important NOW is that the BEST chance that we have of correcting this situation is to come out of the Mid-term election cycle with a Democratic majority in both the House and the Senate. This might not be appealing to some of you, but you are strongly encouraged to do so for the good of your country.
Senator Bill Nelson has a good reputation in representing the interests of Floridians and for maintaining a close bi-partisan relationship with Senator Marco Rubio. Sanjay Patel is the Democratic candidate for the U.S. House of Representative ( 8thDist. of FL. ). He has a degree in Economics from UCLA and is a strong advocate of maintaining a “balanced budget.” He supports Term Limits for both houses of Congress and has been very active in helping the poor through community action. Sanjay deserves a chance to make a difference in the House of Representatives.
We have no way of knowing, right now, how the Mueller investigation will turn out. However, whether Donald Trump is allowed to finish his term of office or not, it is essential that we have a Democratic majority in both the House and Senate.
