Patel and Howes to Speak at February Meeting

Two guest speakers involved in the 2018 midterm elections will be featured at the Feb. 15 meeting of the Democratic Executive Committee of Indian River County.

The meeting, open to interested Democrats in the county, will begin at 6 p.m. at the Vero Beach Community Center, 2266 14th Ave., Vero Beach. The evening will begin with the group’s regular business meeting, followed by the speakers.

At 6:20 p.m., Joanne Howes, an original founder and board member of Emily’s List, will speak about the organization’s work in Florida and the candidates it supports. Emily’s List, headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a political action committee (PAC) dedicated to electing pro-choice Democratic female candidates to office.

At 6:30 p.m., Sanjay Patel, Democratic state committeeman from Brevard County and recently announced candidate for U.S. House District 8, will make remarks, followed by a Q&A session. The congressional seat is currently held by Republican Bill Posey.

The Democratic Executive Committee will conduct precinct captain training following the presentations. The DEC meets monthly at the Community Center.
